Commissioning guide

Each picture is lovingly created using the highest quality artist’s grade pencils for exceptional colour saturation and fade resistance. These images are produced on Fabriano fine art paper, a textured cotton based paper that holds pigment well for improved tonal depth and which is acid free to avoid the dangers of yellowing and discolouration often associated with pictures as they age.

Pictures can be supplied either unframed in a card mount, or ready to hang in a bespoke frame to suite your room.

Pricelist below. Prices quoted are for a single picture featuring one animal. Prices for "addittional animals" refer to the price of putting an addittional animal in the same frame. Normally I recommend that backgrounds are kept white or minimal, but where a background is required, the price is the same as for an additional animal.

Please note, sizes quoted are approximate and refer to the size of the image aperture of the mount. A fully mounted framed picture will be 30-40% larger on the wall. 

Spreading the cost of Christmas

For anyone planning ahead for Christmas or a special event, we offer a "pay in stages" scheme allowing you to book in advance and spread payments on a monthly or weekly basis between the date I start the commission and the date of delivery. For example, someone booking on the 1st of June for Christmas could spread the cost as follows:

(Prices assume framed single mounted picture with 1 animal and clear background. Please note, this is a stage payment scheme only, allowing you to spread the cost between the time of comission and the time of delivery. We do not offer consumer credit.)

As well as allowing you to spread the cost, this also offers us the advantage of being able to take photographs and studies during the summer months when your animal's coat is at its most attractive, and the weather at its best. Pictures take some time to complete. This system also reduces the risk that I have to decline your comission due to it being too close to the 25th December, to enable me to finish the picture in time.

Pictures are produced using photographs. Except for exceptional circumstances, I always aim to visit you on site to take my own, as this allows me to ensure I have exactly what I need to produce the portrait. It also helps me to gain some insight into the character and nature of the subject animal so that this can then be drawn through into the final picture.

Travel costs incurred in relation to commissions are charged at cost. Mileage is charged at rate of 45p per mile on journeys in excess of 10 miles, and is calculated on the basis of a return journey with a starting point of Carr Mill, St Helens, Merseyside (postcode WA11). (For an estimate please refer to AA routefinder and remember to include the mileage for delivery as well as the shoot.) For exceptional circumstances where overnight or extreme long distance travel is required, further charges may apply. In the unlikely event of this situation, I will discuss this with you in advance.

Although I can often produce pictures more quickly, please allow around one month for delivery of pencil drawings. If you have an urgent deadline such as a birthday, please contact me to discuss your requirements.

A 30% deposit is payable upon booking. I can accept payment by debit/credit card, paypal or cash. Your credit card statement will read "In Print Imaging".
